WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2
HAMWORTHY UNITED RESERVES 1
DEBUTANT Jamie Perry starred for Weymouth Reserves as they stretched their unbeaten run in the Magna Dorset Premier League to three games with victory over Hamworthy United Reserves.
The 17-year-old keeper produced a miraculous save at 1-1 in the second half before substitutes Charlie Holland and Chucky Taylor combined for the Terras’ winner with just eight minutes remaining.
Weymouth boss Jake Richmond said: “We played really well, deserved the victory and on another day could have had two or three more.
“Jamie made his debut and pulled off an unbelievable save and then Charlie and Chucky came on to deliver the winner.
“It was just a great all-round display and I could not have been more pleased with the performance.
“Everyone contributed and hopefully now we can build on this in the weeks ahead.”
Adam Skelton, Lee Sharpe and Sean Zima all went close for Weymouth before Dan Moore eventually broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when he slid in to convert a fine cross.
Matt Head then curled an effort just around a post while at the other end Perry was rarely troubled with the Hammers firing one shot directly at him and another over the crossbar.
The Terras continued to look in control at the start of the second half but after Pete Jarvis was denied by a superb save, Hamworthy caught them with a sucker punch.
A dubious free-kick gave the visitors an opportunity to send a long ball into the box and with the home defence stationed too deep, Kyle Spyers nipped in to nod the ball beyond Perry, who was given no chance.
That goal gave United a huge lift and for the next 15 minutes they exerted immense pressure on the Weymouth backline and it nearly paid off.
This time a corner was only half cleared to edge of the box, allowing a Hammer to blaze a thunderous volley through a crowd of players but somehow Perry managed to direct it away at full stretch with a strong palm.
Both sides were left flabbergasted by the save and it turned the tide as the Terras went on to grab the winner on 82 minutes when Holland picked out Taylor, who turned the ball home on the slide.
Holland also had a 30-yarder tipped over the crossbar as the hosts finished the contest full of confidence to secure their first win since December 3.
Commenting further on Perry’s save, Richmond added: “How he got to it I do not know. It was different class and he really has got a promising future ahead of him.”
The Terras, who will travel to Swan-age Town & Herston on Saturday, now sit third-bottom, two points above the bottom two.
Terras: Perry, Sharpe, Anstey, Robinson, Staines, Moore, Jarvis, Head, Zima (Holland 75), Winsper, Skelton (Taylor 70). Subs not used: Budden, Harvey.
