SHERBORNE TOWN RESERVES 2

WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0

THE Terras paid the price for wasteful finishing as Sherborne Town Reserves recorded their first win at the 25th attempt.

The rock-bottom hosts entered the clash with just two points from a possible 72 in the Magna Dorset Premier League.

But goals from Ciaran Levet and Ryan Trevett, the second coming from the spot, gave Sherb their first three-point haul of the season.

Weymouth Reserves’ joint-manager Nick Bennett, who saw Sean Zima miss a first-half penalty, said: “The bottom line is that we missed so many chances and rued the fact that we have lost four strikers, one to injury, in the last month.

“It was a strange game really. We had a goal disallowed and we still don’t know why, and even though they said it was for offside we can’t see how that was the case.

“We also missed a penalty in the first half and although we were quite comfortable we thought we would change things by bringing on Chucky Taylor early in the second half.

“We had two or three other chances and you sensed it was only a matter of time before we scored. Matt Head was then clean through but one of their guys pulled him back.

“We got the free-kick and were then waiting for a card that never came.

“That proved to be the turning point as Sherborne took it as an incentive. The game became more open and with about 20 minutes to go we failed to deal with a long ball and their guy popped one in from 20 yards, with the help of the wind.

“We pushed on again but on 88 minutes we were playing the ball across the back four and it spun up and hit Mark Robinson on the hand, which gave them a penalty to make it 2-0.

“The biggest disappointment was our finishing. We had scored eight goals in our previous four games but we dried up at the weekend.

“To be fair to Sherborne, they are not the side that were getting beat week in, week out. They have some new faces and have a good team spirit."
