WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0

WESTLAND SPORTS 2

JAKE Richmond felt Weymouth Reserves deserved more than what they got at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The joint-manager watched his men match title-chasing Westland Sports for much of the afternoon, only to fall to a 2-0 defeat, with the second goal coming in added-time.

Richmond, whose side sit fourth-bottom in the Magna Dorset Premier League, told Echosport: “I am sick of opposing managers coming up to me and saying they thought we deserved something from the game.

“We dominated them in the second half and although we didn’t test their keeper enough, we had the majority of the possession and corners.

“We had them on the back foot and they had to be content with just trying to hit us on the break.

“In fact, had we had a natural goalscorer on the pitch, there is no doubt we would have got something, “The lads left everything out there again and I just felt gutted for them because they deserved a lot more.”

Luke Winsper sent a free-kick over the bar on 28 minutes before Sports took the lead on the half-hour when a diagonal free-kick into the box was only half cleared allowing Mike Rousell to fire a fine shot past Jamie Perry.

Weymouth then responded with Sean Zima and Matt Morley both having efforts blocked, and Adam Anstey seeing a downward header bounce just inches over the crossbar.

The visitors then had a great chance to double their lead three minutes before the break but Perry pulled off an outstanding save.

After the interval, the Terras got on top but just could not find a way through Sports’ stubborn defence.

Rob Maxted and Jordan Vincent both went close with headers, with the latter seeing his effort cleared off the line, before Charlie Holland sent a shot from 25 yards just over the bar.

The hosts were eventually forced to throw everything forward in the closing stages only to get caught on the break in the fourth minute of injury-time when Rousell bagged his and Sports’ second.

Richmond added: “We just lacked that bit of quality in the final third but apart from that it was another good performance.

“Adam was different class at the heart of the defence again and I also thought Charlie was excellent at left-back.

“There was certainly plenty to build on and now we can look forward to entertaining Holt United on Saturday when hopefully we can put on a similar performance but this time get a positive result to go with it.”
