WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2 PARLEY SPORTS 0

JAKE Richmond enjoyed watching his side win ugly in their latest outing against Parley Sports.

In recent weeks the Terras have not always gained the rewards their efforts have deserved but on this occasion they picked up the three points despite not being at their best.

Joint-boss Richmond told Echosport: “We didn’t play particularly well.

“We left a lot on the pitch last Tues-day night against Portland United and I think a lot of the lads were a bit leggy.

“We didn’t really get our passing game going at all but the way we defended was superb and in some ways it was nice to see us win without playing well because that is a game we would have probably lost earlier in the season.”

A decent crowd were in attendance at the Bob Lucas Stadium and they saw the Terras take the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Rob Maxted and Sean Zima both went close before Danny Moore headed home on 44 minutes following a fine cross from Matt Head.

Parley tested Jamie Perry from 25 yards early in the second half but for all their possession they were unable to breach the hosts’ impressive rearguard.

In the closing stages, Sports continued to commit men forward but after Maxted had gone close to lobbing the visiting keeper from 45 yards, Matt Morley finally put the game to bed with a virtuoso effort that saw him beat three defenders before chipping the ball into the far corner of the net.

Richmond added: “The standout players for us on the day were Adam Anstey and Lee Sharpe, who were on it from the first to the last minute.

“Some of the others tried hard but it didn’t quite happen for them.

“It wasn’t the performance we were after but the result keeps the momentum going and I cannot praise the lads more for their efforts over the past few weeks, which has been tremendous.”

Richmond went on to say: “A massive thank you also goes to the fans that made it down for the game and the groundsman, who did a fantastic job in getting the pitch ready after the heavy rain we had at the end of the week.

“As always, their efforts were very much appreciated.”

The Terras now sit 12th in the Magna Dorset Premier League and will complete their campaign on Saturday when they host Blandford United (3pm).
