WEYMOUTH’s last gasp attempt to add a new recruit to their squad has ground to a halt, after the league refused to allow the club to sign an unnamed player due to the transfer window already being shut.
The Terras were keen to secure the services of the new arrival after he impressed whilst training with Jason Matthews’ squad earlier in the week, but the club were unable to make the deal go ahead.
"We did make arrangements to register a player at training on Thursday night,” club chairman Nigel Biddlecombe told Echosport.
"Following that, I sent the paperwork to the Southern League office but it was refused because the cut-off date for signings was at 5pm that evening.”
The outcome is that Matthews should name the same squad that has secured four successive league wins for their home game against Hitchin Town this afternoon (3pm).
Matthews has recently added loanees Jacob Jagger-Cane, Isaac Vassell and Jamie Richards to his set-up for the remainder of their Southern League campaign.
