A WINNING mentality is a characteristic that Shane Krac believes he can bring to Weymouth next season, as he heads to the Bob Lucas Stadium searching for promotion.

The tough-tackling midfielder signed on the dotted line to complete his Terras’ move last month.

And speaking to Echosport for the first time since the deal, Krac claimed that he will give everything to ensure his new club are in the mix at the business end of the Southern Premier League next term.

He said: “I am a winner and a leader. I’m quite aggressive and I’ll put my body on the line for the club. It’s something that is, and always has been, in my makeup.

“I don’t want to go into any season just wanting to consolidate with a side, I want to be competing and challenging. I challenged last year with Tiverton on all fronts and I expect to be doing that again.

“I’d love to win the league but you never know what other teams are doing.”

After a fruitful spell with Bodmin Town, Krac captained Tiverton to third spot in the Southern League South & West Division last season, and led them to the final of the Red Insure Cup.

That achievement attracted attention from a number of clubs in the Southern Premier League.

But with several sides battling for his signature, Krac believed a pivotal factor in his decision to join the Terras was an opportunity to reunite with some old pals.

“I am good friends with Stewart Yetton and he sold the club to me,” added Krac.

“There were two or three clubs interested in the same league and I was tempted, but the fact that I am good friends with Stew and Stevie Colwell was a big attraction, as well as the size of the football club.

“I spoke to the other clubs and it’s more travelling for me to go to Weymouth if I’m being honest, but I’d rather go there for the lads I know and for what they have said about the club.”

As player-manager Jason Matthews continues to assemble his squad, former Tivvy man Krac was also keen to praise his new boss for his latest acquisitions, as well as hailing his overall vision.

He added: “I met Jason and he is a decent, honest bloke with good intentions for this year. He sold it to me and I bought into it.

“He said the club underachieved lasts eason and he does not want that again.

“He wants the club to push on and has backed up what he said to me with some of the signings he has brought in.

“If you look at the signings they are players that have played at levels above and have great calibre.

“We are going to have a good go at it this year and will try to get in the play-offs or higher, promotion has got to be our aim.”

The Terras will host Torquay United in a pre-season friendly at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Tuesday, July 29 (7.45pm).
