JAKE Richmond is relishing the prospect of producing more talent for the Terras’ first team as Weymouth Reserves get their Dorset Premier League campaign underway this weekend.

Richmond’s men finished runners-up behind Portland United last time out but led the campaign for a lengthy period last season.

His charges, boosted by Kyle Critchell, Jamie Beasley and Josh Tennant, are chomping at the bit to get going and stake their claim for a spot in Jason Matthews’ first-team squad.

Richmond told Echosport: “Of the eight or nine weeks we have been back in pre- season I think we have had no less than 17 at training and it shows how keen the boys are to keep pushing.

“At the end of the day, the gap in ability with who Jase has brought in has got bigger but the good thing is the lads I have are all keen and really want to push for the first team squad. If we get one or two through then it’s happy days.”

And the perfect example of someone making the step up is striker Conor Jevon, who has earned rave reviews from Matthews as part of his squad in pre-season.

Richmond added: “There were a lot of clubs after Conor and he has decided to knuckle down and stay with us.

“If he keeps his feet on the ground and listens to people like Stewart Yetton he will have every chance of being heavily involved, but it’s only the start for him.”
