AN EMOTIONAL Jason Matthews talked of his relief in delivering the Terras’ fans a derby victory at the Bob Lucas Stadium following the hosts’ 2-0 win over arch-rivals Dorchester Town.
The Weymouth chief claimed the emotion of his first triumph over the Magpies as a manager was overwhelming and that he was immensely pleased with his side’s performance.
“I am absolutely buzzing,” he told Echosport. “It is a massive weight off my shoulders.
“I feel that I put a little bit too much pressure on myself, but I can’t help that because that’s who I am as a person.
“I feel that the lads gave me everything, everything I asked of them they did and I am very pleased.
“I need a few days off now. I feel physically and mentally drained because of my emotions and how passionate I was to win this game.
“It means so much to the fans, you only have to look around the ground to see that.
“They are an integral part of what I am trying to do here, which is to build the club.”
The manager also heaped praise on defender Ashley Wells, who he believes has been a revelation at right-back this term.
