BOSS Jason Matthews has assured Terras’ fans that developments in the boardroom over the weekend did not influence his team’s performance, as they look to bounce back at Bideford this evening (7.45pm).

Nigel Biddlecombe stood down from the role of chairman of the club and issued a statement via social media late on Friday night and Chris Pugsley was formally confirmed as his successor on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Matthews’ men suffered their second loss of the season in a shock 3-0 defeat at lowly Histon. But the player-manager was keen to reiterate that what happens on the pitch is down to him, and there is nothing more the Wey-mouth chief wants than to respond with a result in Devon.

He told Echosport: “It was bad timing for everything to come out when it did on Saturday morning but it has nothing to do with things on the pitch.

“My job is to concentrate on things on the pitch and, at the end of the day, it is a business decision that has happened. I can reassure the fans that the club is still in safe hands, it’s nothing to worry about.

“We had a little bit of bad luck and things didn’t quite go our way on the pitch at the weekend, we have to weather that and we are looking forward to getting back out there.

“There is no pressure on the boys, they gave me everything they had on Saturday and it didn’t go our way, sometimes you just have to take it on the chin and move on.”

Weymouth head into a league and cup double-header against the Robins over the next five days, having drawn them at home in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Commenting on tonight’s opponents, he added: “They are two big games against Bideford and we need to get back on track after Saturday’s defeat.

“We watched them last week and we know a fair bit about them, we know what their strengths and weaknesses are and we will speak about it again tonight.”

Matthews, an electrician by trade, will be hoping there are no signs of floodlight failure at the Sports Ground this time around, after the original league fixture was called off last month.
