JASON Matthews admitted that the Terras’ performance to see off Billericay Town on Saturday was not the slickest, but he was still pleased to progress to the next round of the FA Cup.

Weymouth ground out a 1-0 win over the Blues in a hard-fought clash in Essex to ensure they remained in the competition.

And having scooped another £7,500 to boost the coffers, the Terras will find out their fourth qualifying round opponents in today’s draw.

“It’s another magnificent result for the boys,” the player-manager said. “It wasn’t the best performance on the eye but for grinding it out I couldn’t fault any one of them.

“I had a couple of saves to make at the end and they threw the kitchen sink at us but I felt we held on well and we have a very happy camp.”

Stewart Yetton headed home the winner late in the first half for the Terras but missed a penalty just after the break that, in the end, was not costly.

But Matthews insists he will stick with his skipper from the spot in future.

“You would have put your mortgage on Yettsy to score but the keeper made a good save,” he added.

“These things happen and I will back Yettsy to score the next one, that’s for certain.”

Matthews also gave an update on midfielder George Rigg’s condition after he sustained a nasty cut to the face which required him to go to hospital during the encounter.

He added: “George went to hospital for some stitches because it was a nasty cut. He should be okay but it’s not the nicest of treats for his 21st birthday on Wednesday.”
