THREE vital points are at stake in tonight’s derby clash between Weymouth and Poole Town, but brotherly rivalry could also play its part at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Siblings Calvin and Marvin Brooks, who missed their respective sides’ weekend encounters due to a family bereavement, are both hopeful of returning to action for the crunch clash in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Older sibling Marvin has been a mainstay in the Dolphins’ line-up in recent years operating in a number of different roles for the Tatnam outfit, while 20-year-old Calvin has been faultless since slotting into the Weymouth back four since his loan switch to the Terras from Yeovil Town in September.

And set to watch his two sons compete on the night, should they be selected, is proud father Steve Brooks.

He told Echosport: “They were always competitive.

“As far as Calvin is concerned, he needs action, he needs to be on the pitch and making a contribution to a team and not spending these crucial years sitting on the bench.

“From what Calvin tells me, he really enjoys being part of that defence and he really enjoys working with those lads.

“Even now when Weymouth are keeping clean sheets and Calvin is involved in that, it annoys his brother. It’s such a crucial game.

“Marvin will be irritated that Calvin might get in the way of what Poole want to achieve on the night.

“He is desperate to win because, realistically, he is an established Poole player, whereas Calvin is in on loan.”

Both brothers, who were born in Dortmund, claim their sporting prowess from their father, a former personal trainer with the British Army who was a light heavyweight boxing champion in the forces in 1986.

“They represented local garrisons against the German teams wherever I was posted,” Steve added.

“Even though it was at under-8s, Marvin scored a record 74 goals in a season against the German sides.

“Overall, the boys have always known that they would get the chance to test each other.

“Neither of them would consider the game anything to do with bragging rights.

“It’s not like that with either of them, it’s just pure, honest sport.

“It is a real joy to know that they are both playing as part of two good teams.”
