TERRAS’ talisman Stewart Yetton thinks former club Truro City have the strongest squad in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division on paper, but is backing his current side to bag a 10th straight league victory when the two teams meet tomorrow (3pm).

The lethal frontman is hopeful of overcoming an ongoing groin and lower back problem to lead the Terras into battle against the Tigers at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

A City legend with 226 goals in 315 games for the club during his illustrious career with the Cornish outfit, the Weymouth skipper, who quashed speculation of a Truro return last summer by penning a two-year deal with the Terras, believes both sides will remain in the shake up for promotion until the end of the campaign.

Commenting on his former club, managed by ex-Weymouth full-back Steve Tully, Yetton told Echosport: “On paper they are the strongest squad in the league in terms of their 16 or 17.

“They have probably got one of the biggest budgets in the league and are throwing the kitchen sink at it, so you expect them to be up there come the business end of the season.

“If they aren’t happy with a couple of performances they just go out and sign someone else. It’s ideal to have the finances but you struggle to form a team spirit like we have got. It’s a bit of a catch-22.

“I am still nursing a lower back and groin problem so it’s going to be touch and go at the minute. I am hoping I’m going to be alright.

“They have some good attacking options and we will have to be at our best if we are going to contain them, just like they will have to be at their best against us.”

One of those attacking options is experienced marksman Barry Hayles, who has Premier League goals to his name with Fulham, as well as representing Jamaica at international level.

Similar to the Terras, Tully’s men are in rampant form at present, having won nine of their last 10 games in all competitions, and scored 21 goals in their previous four league outings.

A number of familiar faces are set to return to the Bob Lucas Stadium looking to rock the Weymouth’s unbeaten home league record.

They include Ben Gerring, who scored against Bideford in a 5-0 victory on Boxing Day. Craig Duff and Isaac Vassell are part of a Truro squad who could line up against Jason Matthews’ troops.

Midfielder Shane Krac could make his first appearance in a City shirt against the side he left in August, having signed on a dual registration for the Treyew Road club with Plymouth Parkway.

Ed Palmer is also a Truro player but is likely to be ruled out through suspension.

Yetton added: “There will be a few boys coming back and when you play in the South West at this level, Weymouth and Truro will always have players that play across those sides.

“The other two games we have played over the Christmas period have not been anywhere near the quality we are going to come up against on New Year’s Day, it will be a completely different proposition.”
