WEYMOUTH boss Jason Matthews was a proud man after his side recovered from the dismissal of Chris Shephard to earn a share of the spoils against Truro City yesterday.

The Terras were losing 1-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium when Shephard was given a straight red card for violent conduct.

But skipper Stewart Yetton came to the rescue for the umpteenth time this season courtesy of a second-half penalty.

“I felt we weathered the storm in the first half and in the second half it was all us,” said player-manager Matthews.

“Yetts put away the penalty and we were the only team in it after that, even with 10 men.

“I was immensely proud of the team and it just goes to show we don’t know when we’re beaten.

“The togetherness in the team is unreal and I feel I’ve given the Weymouth people their football club back.”

On the red card itself, he added: “The referee had a clear view of it and we couldn’t have any complaints.

“Shep has been provoked but he shouldn’t have reacted like that, and he knows that.

“Shep is absolutely gutted about it but I know he’ll come back strongly.”
