WEYMOUTH chief Jason Matthews was full of praise for frontman Tim Sills after he struck the winning goal to give the Terras all three points against Cambridge City.

Matthews, who has had to use his veteran frontman sparingly throughout the campaign so far due to an ongoing knee problem, was delighted to see his striker rewarded for a tireless performance with his first league goal at the Bob Lucas Stadium for the club.

Commenting on Sills’ display, the Terras’ player-manager told Echosport: “I thought his work rate and his overall game was superb, he is a good pro and, like I keep saying, he is a great lad to have around.”

And as well as delivering on the pitch against the Lilywhites, Matthews also took the time to hail Sills’ contribution in the dressing room this season, among others.

“I needed a little bit of experience from my own point of view with the management because I was new to the job and people like Tim, Chris McPhee and Craig Laird have all come in and stepped up to the plate, and that shows in the results,” he added.

Commenting on the game itself, Matthews said: “Cambridge came to stop us and fair play to Gary Roberts, he had a lot of injuries, but we have got the goal and, in all fairness, I don’t think they have created a chance all day.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of games but we got the result and that’s all that matters at this time of the season.

“We kept the run going, people will look in the paper and see we have won 1-0. We set our standards high and we dropped below them a little bit, but we kept a clean sheet and we have won.”
