MANAGER Jason Matthews was highly impressed with the performance of young stand-in stopper Joe Wollacott, as the Terras dug in for a 1-0 victory at struggling Arlesey Town.

The Bristol City loanee, who made his Weymouth debut between the sticks in the absence of the injured Terras’ player-boss, pulled off a couple of top-drawer saves at the death to seal all three points to keep a clean sheet.

“I think he did very well,” Matthews told Echosport. “He has a good presence and I was pleased with his performance. He comes highly rated and was offered a professional deal on Friday.”

The Terras also survived a late scare when a save from their keeper was prodded into the net by the hosts, but was ruled out for offside.

Commenting on the incident, Matthews added: “The linesman’s flag went straight up and you have to go with the decisions.

“Sometimes I feel decisions have gone against us in the last couple of weeks but the linesman stood strong and did his job.

“It was a big result for us and it’s given us a bit of breathing space in the play-off positions. It’s a big chance for us to kick on now.”

The Weymouth chief also revealed that Gosport Borough man Robbie Matthews would be heading back to his parent club after completing his month-long loan spell at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
