CONCERNED captain Stewart Yetton gave an honest and frank assessment of the poor run of form Weymouth find themselves in at present.

The former Plymouth Argyle and Truro City sharpshooter, who has four goals in his last six league games, fully understood the home support’s frustration after the bizarre 3-3 draw against Burnham on Saturday, and has called for the entire squad to buck their ideas up for what is set to be a tricky run-in.

“As a player I am embarrassed, and rightly so, the fans are not happy with us," he said. "I wouldn’t be if I was a fan, and quite frankly it’s simply not good enough.

“It has been like this for two or three months. We have conceded too many goals this season and it was our downfall again on Saturday. Fundamentally, our goal difference is plus-eight and we have conceded more than 60 goals.

“I was looking at it the other week and, quite frankly, I don’t think any team has been promoted from this league with the goals we have already conceded – let alone with the games we have to go and still having to play the top three.

“You can’t keep needing two or three goals to win a game, and that’s not just the back four and the keeper defensively, that goes for the whole team.

“It’s worrying and concerning for us all I think, and it’s just not going for us at the minute. We need to get back on that training ground, work a lot harder, and work out where it is going wrong.”

And while the Terras’ talisman was dismayed by his side’s weekend performance in particular, he is determined to see the players up their game for manager Jason Matthews.

He added: “We are letting Jase down. Jase has been good as gold for us and we are not performing for him, it’s not good enough.

“We need to get to the bottom of it and we need to do it fast as grown men. We have to sort it out because it’s embarrassing.”
