PLANS are already in place for the Terras’ pre-season schedule, and this summer they are striving to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of success.

Weymouth, who have announced their first confirmed friendly will be at Taunton Town on Friday, July 24 (7.45pm), want to develop each player’s training programme to suit specific needs.

With the help of physio Sophie Sheppard, manager Jason Matthews’ charges are set to learn more on the medical side of things in a bid to sustain top form.

Speaking further about their aims, first-team goalkeeping coach Paul Maitland told Echosport: “We are looking at doing a couple of other things that we haven’t done before, just to try and change it up, and do a little bit more on the medical side.

“We are planning to have a better understanding of the fatigue suffered and whether we can manage training regimes and diets. We want to go into a little more depth.

“Our physio (Sheppard), with her boss, is going to put all the players through their body composition with a complete scan.

“Sophie has spent quite a bit of time working on it already and putting plans into action.”

On what the Weymouth playing squad will do, he added: “They are going to go through various fitness tests and be spoken to by a nutritionist, as well as being given a bit of guidance.

“Things will come back saying whether players are stronger in one leg or, for example, have a weakness with their back and need to avoid doing certain things.

“We are going to look to tailor their fitness regimes a bit more individually rather than all doing the same thing.

“We did it with Tim Sills last season. The amount he trained had been tailored to suit him and it meant he lasted the whole season. We were able to get games out of him when we needed him.

“Anything we can do to gain any sort of advantage, without having to spend a huge amount of money, has got to be taken up.”
