TIM Sills reckons the Terras have enough ability in their squad to overcome anyone in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The Weymouth player-assistant and his team-mates travel to Cambridge City tomorrow (3pm) for the much-anticipated opening league game of the new term.

Like the fans and the rest of the players, Sills will be looking to learn the lessons of last season when the Terras let a chance of promotion slip through their fingers.

And the 35-year-old feels the Bob Lucas Stadium outfit are more than a match for the rest of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back into it,” he said. “With my new role it’s a bit of a step into the unknown but I’m full of hope and expectation going into the new season.

“We’ve been slightly unlucky with some of our big players picking up injuries but all the lads have stepped up to the plate and done well in pre-season.

“The boys have come back in such good shape that I don’t think it will take too long until they are up to full speed.”

He went on to add: “Jason (Matthews) has had Cambridge watched and they are fairly similar to last season from what we have heard.

“Although we need to focus on what we’re doing, it’s important we are prepared for what we are going to come up against.

“Cambridge normally do fairly well but I think we’ve got enough in our locker to get past anyone in this league.

“We are hoping that the play-offs will be the minimum for us this season and we need to get a good start.”

Veteran Sills is thoroughly enjoying his new job as boss Matthews’ number two, with the training sessions he has been running in pre-season proving crucial with the Terras losing a couple of friendlies.

And with Matthews bringing in the likes of Josh Grant, Sills could find himself playing more of a supporting role on the pitch as well.

Commenting on that, he said: “I didn’t know what to expect when I was made Jason’s assistant but it has been really good.

“I was lucky in that I landed on my feet with the job in the fact I know the club and the players.

“But I’ll certainly be ready to play when I’m needed.

“Jason signed Josh this week and he looks really good.

“We’re not going to put too much pressure on him but hopefully we’ve unearthed a rough diamond.”

Elsewhere, the club’s reserves start their season in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League under new manager Bradley Asagba with a home fixture against Parley Sports (3pm).
