CHIEF Jason Matthews is upbeat about the trio of performances Weymouth have put in this term and feels his side are “unlucky” to have only returned four league points so far.

The Terras have a win, loss and draw to their name from their opening three outings going into tonight’s clash with Bideford at the Bob Lucas Stadium (7.45pm), who have accumulated the same points tally from their opening three fixtures.

“After the way people were worried about pre-season, we have started very well,“ Matthews told Echosport.

“We have passed the ball around well and had a lot of possession. I feel we have been a little bit unlucky in our points tally with how we have played so far.

“No team has outplayed us yet and we haven’t been beaten up physically like we were sometimes last year.”

Bideford grabbed their first league victory of the campaign when they beat King’s Lynn Town 1-0 on Saturday.

Speaking about tonight’s opposition Matthews added: “It’s another tough game against a team that will play a little bit differently to us. Sean Joyce (Bideford’s manager) sets his sides up very well and they will be very hard to beat.”

One man who is still struggling with a knee problem is Weymouth’s Mark Molesley, who was forced to watch from the stands after jarring his injured knee in the warm-up at the weekend.

Matthews added: “Mark was having treatment yesterday and we will see where we are at with him.

“We didn’t even chance it on Saturday and hopefully it’s just a week out rather than four weeks.”
