MIDFIELDER George Rigg was relieved to get back into action at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday and cap his side’s blistering performance off with Weymouth’s sixth goal of the afternoon against Slough Town.

Rigg replaced Mark Molesley just short of the hour mark in the emphatic victory over the Rebels, having been struggling for game-time after suffering an ankle injury in October.

Speaking about his goal, the former Bristol City and Stoke City man told Echosport: “I was buzzing and it was almost like a bit of a relief.

“I have been waiting patiently for a chance to get on. In the last couple of games or so I haven’t even come off the bench so to come on and score was nice.

“To get the goal meant I felt a part of it and obviously all the boys were pleased for me as well.”

And Rigg, who was part of the squad’s Christmas night out on Saturday, believes such an impressive goal tally for the Terras had been on the cards.

He added: “I think a result like that had been brewing for a while.

“We know we have the squad and the players to be able to put six past a team but it just hadn’t been coming off for us.

“We had our night out after which made it 10 times better!”

One of Weymouth player-manager Jason Matthews’ first acts when he took permanent charge of the Terras was to bring Rigg into the club.

And the all-action midfielder insists a lot has changed since he arrived in January 2014.

“When I first came to the club I was a fresh face and I didn’t really know anyone,” he added.

“Looking at the side we had then compared with now, the ambitions and desire of everyone around has come on loads.”
