WEYMOUTH Reserves' chief Bradley Asagba took the time to thank striker Mark Ford for his contributions at the club, following his exit from the Bob Lucas Stadium once again.

It was revealed that the former Salisbury and Blandford United hitman has decided to link up with Simon Browne and ex-Terras’ boss Brendon King, who is now the assistant at Wimborne Town.

Ford, who had returned to Weymouth earlier in the season from Salisbury, stated via Twitter that the move was a “new challenge” and a “fresh start” for him at the Southern League South & West Division outfit.

He posted: “Delighted to have signed for @wimbornetownfc, new challenge, fresh start! Get back to doing what I do best!”

In an interview with the Daily Echo, Wimborne boss Browne also said: “Mark says he played his best football under Brendon so hopefully, we can get him firing on all cylinders again.”

Speaking on behalf of the Terras about the switch, Asagba told Echosport: “We thank him for his contributions.

“While he was back with us he had been thoroughly professional, had helped the younger lads in the team and a lot of the younger lads looked up to him.

“They (Wimborne) are a league below the Weymouth first team and that is the level he wants to be playing at. It’s a good opportunity for him to get back to where he was.”

In an interview given to Echosport in October, Asagba said: “Mark’s game is based around his fitness and sharpness. When he doesn’t have that and he is not up to speed it can be difficult for him.”

And at present, he believes the former Terras’ striker is still going through the motions of getting back up to speed.

Asagba added: “I think although he has been proven at first-team level, that was a long time ago.

“He is still in the process of rehabilitating himself and he is still fitness-wise and form-wise quite some way away.

“The offer to Wimborne came before he had the chance to really finish the process with us.

“If you look at some of the other forwards like Conor Jevon, he is still, in my opinion, slightly closer to what’s required to what Mark was before he left.”
