GEORGE Rigg is keen to pick up where he left off once he recovers from the nasty blow he took to the face on Saturday.

The Weymouth midfielder, who had been in impressive form since his return to the side, clashed heads with Kettering keeper Paul Walker and was left with a nasty cut above the eye which required 16 stitches.

Speaking about the moment he sustained the blow, Rigg, who has also been left nursing a colourful shiner, told Echosport: “To be fair, I didn’t know he (Walker) was coming.

“When I felt the impact and went to the floor it was a bit of a shock – I wasn’t knocked out though. As soon as I did it I looked at my hands, saw the blood, and knew it was bad.”

Rigg required double the amount of stitches than his Kettering counterpart and, after receiving treatment in Bristol after the game, eventually got home at around midnight.

But, with the Terras scooping three points against the Poppies earlier in the day, the Weymouth ace was delighted to be at the ground to see Adam Kelly net the winner – and he even got in trouble for his celebrations.

“They wanted to send me to Dorchester but it was quite a long wait, so I thought I might as well go back to Bristol and get it done there,” Rigg added.

“I literally caught the end when we scored. I was celebrating and got told off by the St John Ambulance people for jumping around!”

He added: “Two to four weeks out is probably accurate but any little knock will obviously split it back open again.

“I will be back again once it’s all healed and I will be ready to carry on where I left off.”

Weymouth’s clash at Bideford last night was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
