ADAM Kelly has spoken out about his Terras departure, revealing “I wasn’t really enjoying my football at Weymouth”.

The former Terras’ star finalised his return to Salisbury last Friday and made his debut for the Whites earlier this week.

Kelly, who was one of Jason Matthews’ first signings as player-manager, did however take the time to thank his former boss, insisting he has “a lot of respect” for the Weymouth chief.

Explaining his reasons behind the move, he told Echosport: “If I’m completely honest I wasn’t really enjoying my football at Weymouth. I had been there for a couple of seasons and if it wasn’t for a couple of lads I’d have probably moved a little bit sooner.

“I was just getting frustrated and wasn’t enjoying it. I basically have a year left of my PhD as well so it’s quite a stressful time, I just felt that the environment I was in wasn’t helping me.

“I am more planning towards next year by moving now to make sure I am sorted in terms of myself and looking for a new challenge.”

He added: “I had been playing out wide all season and had been isolated. I hadn’t really been getting the ball and I don’t think we had the type of midfielder to get on the ball and get it to the more creative players.

“That’s no disrespect to the midfielders that are there, they are just not those types of players.

“I want to get on the ball and be creative. There were games going by where I was not even getting on it.

“I also think there were a couple of times where I had been brought off when I don’t think it was really the right decision, or dropped when certain lads had kept their spots.

“I don’t think I was doing the lads any favours in terms of getting frustrated with them.”

And as he embarks on a new challenge in his career, the midfielder did reserve special thanks for his former manager Matthews.

“I spoke to Jase when Salisbury put a seven-day approach in for me,” he added.

“I think Jase has been fantastic for me throughout the last few seasons, he signed me from Tiverton when I was desperate to get out of there.

“I really get on with Jase and have a lot of respect for him. I really do hope the lads push on and get into the play-offs, a lot of the lads in there are desperate to do it.”
