JASON Matthews admits his Terras’ troops now have a ‘mountain to climb’ if they are to make the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division play-offs this term.

The Terras were beaten 1-0 by Dorset rivals Poole Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium yesterday, with a first-half header from Marvin Brooks, brother of home skipper Calvin, giving the Dolphins a priceless win and a league double over Weymouth this season.

That result has left Matthews’ charges six points off the pace for a top-five place, while Poole still have strong claims for the league title and automatic promotion outright.

Assessing his side’s display against their Tatnam tormentors, player-manager Matthews told Echosport: “I felt that, overall, it was a very good performance against Poole and it was disappointing to concede from a set-piece goal and give Poole something to hang on for.

“For me, that’s what they did, they hung on all game.

“There are still a lot of positives to come out of it. I felt my team was very good and we took the game to Poole like we needed to.

“I felt that we had a few half-chances but I felt our set-pieces weren’t quite as good as Poole’s.

“When you have someone like Devs (Steve Devlin) in their team, he hurts you with his set-pieces and he has done it again.

“I felt if we had got a goal we would have gone on and won the game but it wasn’t to be. We are back to the drawing board and we have left ourselves a mountain to climb to make the play-offs.

“It is a little bit frustrating but it’s not dead yet.

“I still feel that another 16 points would see us in the play-offs.”
