TERRAS’ favourite Ashley Wells admitted it would be a good feeling to put the Terras “back where they belong” by securing promotion this season.

Wells played a big part in Weymouth’s do-or-die 1-0 win over Leamington at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Tuesday, and was named man of the match on the night.

The popular full-back also earned the free-kick from which the hosts’ all-important winning goal came from.

Reflecting on the victory, he told Echosport: “I would say it was up there with one of our best team performances of the season, everyone worked hard and dug in.

“We knew what we had to do, got the goal and, with our defence at the moment, we know we can keep teams out.

“We believe in ourselves every time we step on the pitch. We know our strikers can do it and, as a team, we are defending very well at the moment.

“It’s always nice when you contribute to a goal. Being a defender you don’t always get the chance to, but to do my bit is always nice.”

Asked about the Terras’ promotion focus, Wells added: “Coming over from Portland, I have worked my way through the ranks and obviously I want to play as high as I can while I can.

“I have supported Weymouth all my life and used to watch them as a boy, so it would be nice to get them back to where they belong.

“We have such a good dressing room and we know we can beat anyone in the league on our day.”
