GEORGE Rigg has described Terras’ boss Jason Matthews as “a great manager” and is backing him to deliver a highly sought after promotion at the Bob Lucas Stadium next season.

The former Weymouth midfielder admitted the club “made me enjoy my football again” in an interview with Echosport last week, after his departure from the squad was announced.

The former Bristol City man, who was Matthews’ first signing as a manager in January 2014, was part of a Terras’ squad that finished seventh two seasons in a row and missed out on the play-off places in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

But Rigg is adamant that next term the club can reach the next level and is looking forward to tracking their progress.

He told Echosport: “Obviously we fell short in the last couple of seasons but next year I am sure they will definitely do it (gain promotion).

“The club is just itching for it because it’s such a big club that deserves to be at that level.

“Jase and Sillsy (Tim Sills) as assistant are getting the balance right and I am sure they will do it next season.”

He added: “I want to thank Jase for giving me the opportunity at Weymouth.

“He is a great manager and has a great bunch of lads in the current squad.”
