JORDAN Copp is hoping to finally cement his place in the Weymouth first team after signing a new contract with the club.
The former Plymouth midfielder has been a bit-part player for the Terras in his two-year stint with the side and he has accepted his manager’s challenge of kicking on next season.
Talking about his new deal to Echosport, Copp said: “I’m glad to get it tied down. It’s nice to get things sorted and I’m already excited for next season.”
His boss, Jason Matthews, has issued him with a challenge of putting in consistent performances, something which the 22-year-old is looking forward to.
He added: “It’s nice that the club has shown faith in me. I’m looking to push on, I want to start as many games as possible and be the first name on the sheet week in, week out.
“It’s a challenge but it’s one I’m looking forward to when we get back.”
Copp also revealed he had had contact from other clubs, but staying with the Terras was a no-brainer.
“The chance to play for a club like Weymouth doesn’t come along often in non-League,” he explained. “I spoke to other clubs but I never wanted to leave and Jase (Matthews) wants me to stay and knuckle down and make the place my own so I stayed loyal.
“I absolutely love it here.”
