JASON Matthews admitted he was “absolutely delighted” to see striker Sam Jordan come off the bench and net twice in his side’s 3-1 win over Biggleswade Town on Saturday.

The Terras’ boss, who snapped up the striker from Bradford Town in the summer, also insisted he had “no doubt” the frontman would score goals at Southern League level.

Jordan’s double along with a bullet header from defender Jake Wannell ensured the Terras got their Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division campaign off to a flying start, having initially trailed the Waders going into the second half.

“It was a fantastic away performance and it was lovely to get off the mark with three points,” Matthews told Echosport.

“I have to give credit to the boys, I thought we were outstanding. As soon as we scored that first goal there was only going to be one winner in the game.”

Commenting on Jordan’s league debut, he added: “I am absolutely delighted for him. I felt he took his goals really well. He showed a true forward’s instinct I think, which is why I signed him.

“I had no doubt that he would score goals at this level.”

Another impressive display came from a surprise selection in Conor Jevon for the hosts.

Assessing his performance, Matthews added: “If you watched the pre-season friendlies I felt he really announced himself.

“He gave us some added height and gave a good account of himself.

“He is still learning and buying into what we are trying to achieve on the pitch.

“I won’t just pick a team on names and he got there on merit.”
