JASON Matthews has tipped winger Aaron Rodriguez to have a “big future in the game” after his impressive start to the season.

The former Gillingham Town man scored his first goal in a Weymouth shirt in the FA Cup tie against Paulton Rovers in midweek, and is expected to be in the squad for the Terras’ tough trip to Leamington tomorrow (3pm).

Speaking about Rodriguez, who has now agreed to a contract with the club, Matthews told Echosport: “He has been excellent since he has come in.

“He has been a really good addition to the squad, is a good lad and is someone I have an awful lot of time for.

“He has been brave to take the step up and that’s a credit to him.

“If he keeps believing in himself I think he has a big future in the game.

“It’s not always about going out and getting big names, sometimes you have to balance your squad well and I feel we have done that this year.”

Chris Shephard (knee), is still struggling to be fit for tomorrow’s encounter with the Brakes, who are third in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division with 16 points from seven league games.

Ashley Wells has had a scan on his knee and is still doubtful but Dean Evans “will be fit to play a part” according to the Terras’ boss. Jordan Copp is also set to return from illness.
