TERRAS' striker Stewart Yetton admitted he is “absolutely desperate” for a lengthy run in the FA Cup this season.

The club captain scored on his return to the starting XI in Weymouth’s 3-2 victory over Gosport Borough on Saturday to help his side book their place in Monday's third qualifying round draw.

Giving his thoughts on the contest, he told Echosport: “I thought we were good value for the win and it was a real cup tie. We created a lot of chances and I thought we were a different proposition.

“Jase (Matthews, manager) changed the shape, went 4-4-2 and I think it helped us out to be honest. In the final third we had more men in the right areas and I think it showed.

“Gosport are a side that have players on a lot of big money so we should take a lot of positives out of it.”

Yetton was part of the Weymouth side that agonisingly missed out on a place in the first round proper, when they lost in 5-3 in extra time at Braintree Town in a fourth qualifying round replay two years ago.

That, surprisingly, is the as far as the former Plymouth Argyle man has featured in the competition and he is eager to go the extra step this time round.

He said: “It would be absolutely brilliant to get as far as we can, just for the club to get a bit of prize money and for the fans to hopefully get some juicy ties. It’s the magic of the FA Cup isn’t it?

“I am not getting any younger so I am absolutely desperate to get as far as I can this year.”

Asked for his hopes on the next round, Yetton replied: “Hopefully it’s another home tie, whoever it may be. I don’t really think there is anyone to fear especially when we are at home.

“We will all be excited and hopefully we get that home draw.”
