STEWART Yetton has issued a rallying call to his team-mates to “take personal responsibility” for their performances, in a bid to turn the club’s league campaign around.

The club captain, a talismanic member of manager Jason Matthews’ squad, also insisted he would “as always” be giving 100 per cent effort to ease the pressure on the under-fire boss.

The Terras visit Dunstable Town in the FA Trophy second qualifying round this afternoon (3pm), meaning their faltering record in the league will have to go on the back burner.

But the former Plymouth Argyle striker is looking for the squad to turn the corner and book their place in the next round of the national competition.

He told Echosport: “Although we all want to be playing in the league to climb the table, it may be a good time to have a game or two in the cup to try and rediscover a bit of form.

“It was disappointing last week and Jase read us the riot act a little bit in terms of what we need to do better. Which is absolutely what we expect.”

He added: “We are not stupid, at the end of the day we need to pull our finger out as players all over. We all need to be doing better, every one of us.

“It would be easy to try and point fingers in areas of the pitch, but it’s a collective thing. We haven’t been good enough up front, out wide, in the middle of the park, at the back and in goal. We haven’t been good enough all over.

“I have been around football long enough and seen it too many times when it’s easy to look at others and blame others as to why you are in a position.

“What is important is players don’t sit there and think that it is through fault of others. People have got to take personal responsibility for themselves, which is the key thing.

“You have to look after yourself, make sure you are doing your job right and focus on getting your element of the game right. Then, we can put that together as a team.”

The skipper claimed: “Jase will be getting, as always from me, 100 per cent commitment and effort.

“It’s going to be tough today but we need to go there and get a result and take some positives out of it.”
