BOSS Jason Matthews hailed his side’s determination to come up with a 2-1 victory under pressure against an in-form Frome side at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Goals from Charlie Davis and Ben Thomson slightly eased the pressure on the Terras’ chief, who has had his critics in recent weeks over the side’s league position.

But the Weymouth player-manager, who pulled off a superb save in goal to keep the score at 2-1 late on, insists the performance from his side still shows his squad’s togetherness.

He told Echosport: “I felt that it was a very comprehensive win, although the scoreline doesn’t reflect it.

“The biggest thing for me was we have probably created 20 good chances in the last two games and got three points to show for it. That’s incredibly frustrating.

“We have slipped in the league but we are determined to put it right. The togetherness was unbelievable after a real sucker-punch on Saturday. We dug in and that proves the character that we have got. You find out a lot about people when your backs are against the wall and I feel that, last night, the lads passed with flying colours.”

Asked what he felt those that have criticised him would make of the display, Matthews replied: “Some people you can’t please, it’s just one of those things and it’s something I have to live with.

“Unless we won every game and played total football I wouldn’t please everyone, I’m fully aware of that but I feel I still have the dressing room with me, there is still a long way to go in the league this season.”
