POOLE Town manager Tom Killick insisted the Terras “deserve a lot of credit” for how they performed at Tatnam on Saturday.

The Dolphins’ chief, whose side grasped a 1-1 draw in the FA Trophy against Weymouth with a late leveller from Lewis Lindsay at the weekend, will lock horns with Jason Matthews’ side once again at the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow (7.45pm) with derby bragging rights and progression in the national competition still at stake.

Killick also insisted he hoped to see the Terras renew battles with the Dolphins at league level in the future, and claimed “when they (Weymouth) are at their best they are capable of beating anyone”.

Giving his thoughts on Saturday’s game between the derby rivals, Killick told Echosport: “I thought in the first half we were well below where we needed to be and I think Weymouth took advantage of that.

“They started to have a belief and a confidence, partly because of how inept we were, and they deservedly scored.

“Once they had scored I think it energised them.

“It gave them a real belief that they could win the game and I thought they were really spirited in the second half.

“They defended resolutely and it looked for a long time that it was going to be enough to knock us out the cup.

“But we kept going and, when you look at the amount of chances we had, I think we do deserve to have drawn the game.”

He continued: “I think Weymouth deserve a lot of credit by what they put into the game. I was impressed with them, although I was disappointed yhay wr were so bad in the first half.

“I thought it wasn’t an amazing game in terms of quality but you could see that both sides were desperate to win.

“On balance I think it would have been harsh on Weymouth to have lost and it would have been harsh on us to have lost.”

With the Terras’ desperate to land promotion back to National League South, Killick admitted that, while there was still competition between the two clubs, he would like to see Weymouth get back to that level to reignite the rivalry in the league.

“One of the big disappointments of us coming out of the Southern Premier is to miss out on the games against Weymouth and the games against Dorchester,” he explained.

“Suddenly, now we are presented with our local derbies being Gosport and Hungerford. It’s horrific.

“I’d love to see Weymouth in our league because you get this type of spectacle and I hope we get the same on Tuesday.

“I think with the players that Weymouth have got it’s just that consistency.

“You can see that when they are at their best, they are capable of beating anyone.

“For now it’s the cup and, hopefully it will be another good occasion, well attended, and a good spectacle.”
