MANAGER Bradley Asagba was full of praise for his reserve-team members that stepped up to the plate for Weymouth in the Dorset Senior Cup in midweek.

With the first-team squad playing just 24 hours earlier, a number of Asagba’s squad took their chance to feature in the 4-0 win over Sherborne in the last-eight tie.

Nick Thomas featured in goal for the Terras with Tiago Sa, Aston Butcher and Craig Michie all slotting into the defence.

Sean Stewart operated in midfield and there were also appearances off the bench for Dom Panesar-Dower, Razaaq De Graft Coleman and Sanchez Jansz-Baker.

And Asagba was pleased to see his squad members take the responsibility.

Asked for his thoughts on the game, he told Echosport: “From my perspective, it was really positive. For my lads that were stepping up they were playing against higher level opposition and it was a very comfortable victory.

“They all came in and did themselves proud to be fair, they were very comfortable.

“It wasn’t like these lads had just been included in a Wessex League match. It was a first-team game with something riding on it, it dispels the myth that people don’t get the opportunity (at Weymouth).

“They competed against a very physical aggressive side and there was a pressure on us to get a result because, as a club, we want to win the cup again, to be honest.”

The reserves now switch their attention to a trip to New Milton Town tomorrow (3pm), a side they walloped 10-0 in Sydenhams Wessex Division One last month.

Conor Jevon scored five for the reserves that day but is likely to feature for the first team in their FA Trophy tie at Whitehawk tomorrow (3pm).
