WEYMOUTH player-manager Jason Matthews is targeting a rich run of victories over the Christmas period, starting with tomorrow’s home clash with St Ives Town (3pm).

Three of the Terras’ next four league games are on their own patch with the other being just up the road at Dorchester for the Ridgeway derby on Boxing Day.

And Matthews, who had a scout to watch Dorchester and St Ives draw 1-1 at the Avenue on Tuesday night, believes all of their next four fixtures are “definitely winnable”.

Speaking ahead of their tussle with the Saints, Matthews told Echosport: “We did well in the cups and have made some reasonable money out of them this season. Obviously, it has hampered our league form and now is our chance to kick on.

“I would class the next four games as extremely big games. They are games that are definitely winnable.

“We need to win those games and put ourselves back in the mix.

“If we won our games in hand on Frome, for example, we would go level on points with them and they are sixth in the league. That shows what a tight league it is.

“At the same time, if we lose a couple of games, we are still in the lower reaches, which is not where Weymouth Football Club want to be. It’s definitely not where I want to be.”

He added: “St Ives are a team that have come up and done well to be where they are but they are a team we are expected to beat.”

The Terras’ boss is hopeful that Chris Shephard and Conor Jevon will be back after suffering from illness this week.

Jordan Copp (ankle) and Jake Wannell (calf) will both be monitored ahead of the encounter.

Stuart Fleetwood’s final game of his loan spell from Bath City is scheduled to be tomorrow but Matthews revealed he would like to keep the striker for another month.

He said: “Stu’s last game is set to be on Saturday but we are in the process of agreeing another month’s loan with him.”
