TERRAS’ boss Jason Matthews saw his side fall flat once again at home this season in their 2-0 loss to Hitchin Town.

Two second-half goals in three minutes from Canaries’ duo Brett Donnelly and Robbie Burns mean the Terras are now 20 points off the play-offs, having played a game more than fifth-placed Slough Town.

Giving his thoughts on the loss, the Weymouth manager told Echosport: “For me, when Hitchin scored their two goals, the game was done.

“We had a 10-minute spell in the second half where we didn’t find our players with our passing and invited Hitchin on.

“They punished us. You can see with their gamesmanship why they are where they are, I think they batted very clever and it was a very frustrating day for me.

“I am not making any excuses, we just had a spell where we weren’t good enough again. It’s been like that too many times this season and it’s something we need to address fast.”

A pair of plusses for the Terras’ boss did come on the afternoon with Ben Thomson and Mark Cooper making their returns from injury off the bench.

Matthews did however reveal that Chris Shephard has had a scan on what is believed to be a calf problem and could face four to five weeks out.

One option Matthews could call on is striker Sam Jordan, who scored two for Melksham Town in their 6-0 win over Clevedon Town on Saturday.

Asked about the situation surrounding the striker, Matthews replied: “It’s an option and, after Saturday, it leaves me with plenty of food for thought.

“I am still in contact with Sam, he’s still our player but Mangotsfield have put in a seven day notice of approach for him and, we will see where that goes.”
