WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1

LAVERSTOCK & FORD 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves secured an excellent 1-0 victory over promotion-contenders Laverstock & Ford.

The Terras were looking to extend their unbeaten run to six in the league and continue the momentum they have picked up over recent weeks.

Asagba’s team looked dominant from start to finish, creating numerous chances, whereas the visitors got men behind the ball and tried to catch the hosts on the break.

Conditions were not quite perfect, meaning that Weymouth’s performance wasn’t quite as pleasing on the eye as their 5-2 victory over US Portsmouth, but they still managed to rack up a number of attempts

The goal came on 86 minutes, as a 30-yard free-kick from Ashley Ayley found its way to Sam Jackson, who rolled the ball home from 18 yards out, wrapping up a fifth consecutive win for Bradley Asagba’s side, with the manager being delighted with the goal that secured the win.

He said: “It was a real moment of quality, and worthy of winning the game.

“I’m delighted, even more so because we only had one fit sub.

“At the end of the day, Laverstock are in contention of finishing second or third in the league, and to beat a team when you aren’t at full strength is pleasing and reinforces that momentum that we’re building.

“It’s essential to carry on the run of form.

“Lavistock probably have far more to play for than what we do but from our perspective we have our own targets and objectives, and it’s imperative that this result doesn’t get squandered by putting in a sub-standard performance on Wednesday night and again on Saturday.

“We’ve got two away games on the bounce after two home games and we’ll pay respect to our opponents, but we’ll be turning up very much with the focus of getting three points from the games, and that has to be our objective to make sure our run of form doesn’t get halted.”
