KEEPER Tom McHale’s loan spell with the Terras appears to have come to an abrupt end as parent club Truro City confirmed the youngster has returned to Treyew Road.

The talented stopper, who made the number one shirt his own since arriving at the Bob Lucas Stadium in December, is set to be part of the Tigers’ side that makes the trip to Poole Town in National League South tonight.

A statement on the Truro City website reads: “Emerging goalkeeper, Tom McHale, has been recalled from his loan spell at Weymouth and will be part of the White Tigers' squad that travels to Poole Town this evening.

“The youngster has done well whilst out on loan and is determined to fight for his first-team place here at Treyew Road.”

Commnting on the departure, Weymouth player-manager Jason Matthews told Echosport: “Truro have conceded a few goals of late and that was always a little bit of a worry in the back of my mind.

“I am really disappointed to lose Tom in the final games of the season but, obviously, he is Truro’s player, so there was nothing we could do about it.

“I wish him well, he’s a great lad and his work ethic is second to none."

He added: “I feel he has got a good future in the game and he is definitely someone that, if he is available next year, I would be interested in signing.

“He was a nice lad to have around and is the type of person I would like to have in a Weymouth shirt - he will be tough to replace.”

Keeper Matthews, who has been operating as number two to McHale for the second half of the campaign, insisted he would be assessing his options when asked about recruiting an immediate replacement.
