WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley is excited to return to the footballing aspect of his job after a busy summer of signings, negotiations and planning.

Molesley embarks on his first full session as boss tonight after initial testing on Wednesday as his refreshed squad focuses on their pre-season preparations at Blandford School.

And Molesley admitted to Echosport he has been eager to work on the training ground following a hectic two-month break.

He said: “It’s like I’ve never been away actually, the phone never stops ringing! I’m looking forward to doing the actual football part of it.

“There’s been a bit of politics, signings and financial stuff so we’re itching to go now.

“It’s a big challenge – I’m relishing it. The workload is definitely more but I’m enjoying it. I’ve always liked to build stuff and take things forward. I’m lucky I’ve got a great support network at Weymouth.”

Molesley has been in close contact with his players in the off-season and revealed he has given each player homework to ensure they begin training in good condition.

“I’ve been in regular contact with them. They’ve had certain criteria to take on with them in the off-season. I think the days are gone now where they come back a stone overweight.

“Pre-season can be a bit punishing and gruelling, but it’s how you arrive on that first day of the season,” he said.

“I’m quite confident the players I’ve signed I know a lot about. They will add to what we’ve got. The whole squad will be in for special attention, with no stone unturned.

“We’ll try to give them all the help and support they need to play well for Weymouth.”

With several new faces at the club, Molesley is expecting his entire squad to knuckle down and prove their worth by showing two key traits.

“Attitude and hard work are my top two priorities. There’s no secret formula. It’s the attitude and hard work and attention to detail from them and the coaching staff.

“If they turn up and work I think that’s all we can ask for. We have signed talented players and we’ve got a talented squad but that’s nothing if they don’t prove that day in and day out,” he said.

Weymouth will continue to use Blandford School as a training base in a continuation of plans first laid late last season.

He said: “It will be good to get everyone together and start preparations for next season. Blandford School have been very accommodating, it’s a big part of our plans.

“We used their astroturf at the end of last season and the location does suit the squad better as a whole. It works better for everyone and all parties really.”

Molesley revealed that his summer dealings may not be over, with extra signings on the horizon.

“I think we’re looking strong for next season. We have got more signings in the pipeline that we hope to announce soon. Hopefully they’ll give us a little bit more meat on the bone.

“There will be a couple of places up for grabs. I think we have got the lion’s share of our business done and I’m more than happy with the business we’ve done this year,” he added.
