WEYMOUTH director of football Paul Maitland is looking forward to playing a game where there is nothing riding on it as the Terras host the British Virgin Islands tonight (7.30pm).

The result comes as the Terras have secured their Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division play-off spot and now aim to jostle for the second or third place in the league to secure home advantage in early May.

It is something a bit different, it is something we are looking forward to. It is nice to be playing a game that there is nothing riding on but it is important for us because like most games this year we are looking to get something out of it. So it is going to be important for the players that play that they put a performance on and show what they are all about as well.”

“We will be having a good look at what our players do tonight but also have a look at what the British Virgin Islands are about as well. It will be quite interesting.”

The British Virgin Islands have been at a training camp at Milton Abbey and their assistant-manager, Dan Neville, is from Lytchett Minster.

When asked about the squad selection for the friendly, Maitland said: “We will not be risking anyone that does not need game time.

“Anyone that does need game time will play and we will also be using it to look at some of the young lads that we have been working with over the season and maybe one or two others that have come in just for us to look at.

“Generally the players on show are not going to be what you might call youth team players.

“It is just an opportunity that has presented itself that we have taken and it offers us a chance to look at one or two things and that is what we will be looking to take out of the game. The result is immaterial and I think it is the same for the British Virgin Islands, they are in the middle of a week-long camp so it is a chance for them to play a game against an opposition here and show what they are all about.”

Meanwhile, the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division have extended the season for those fighting for and against play-offs, promotion or relegation.
