WEYMOUTH assistant-manager Tom Prodomo insisted the Terras’ 3-0 Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division play-off semi-final heartbreak at King’s Lynn was merely the “first step” on the club’s intended journey up the league system.

The Linnets scored three spectacular goals in the first-half, courtesy of Cameron Norman, Craig Parker and Cameron King, to crush Weymouth’s hopes of gaining promotion to the National League South.

But Prodomo was magnanimous in his praise for the Norfolk side, adding that Weymouth’s players had “done the club proud” with their efforts this season, which saw them finish fifth with 97 points.

He told Echosport: “It’s always disappointing when you’ve come so far in a season to end in defeat, but they are a good side and scored three fantastic goals.

“The boys responded really well to that situation and as they’ve done all season they’ve done the club proud.

“It’s important to give King’s Lynn credit. All the sides in the play-offs were well into 90 points, so it’s important to pay them the respect they deserve.”

And Prodomo believes the club’s next task is to maintain the Terras’ growth into next season.

He said: “It’s a really positive first step on our journey and we’re a very ambitious group. We recognise that ambition needs to be matched by hard work.

“Everyone involved in the club this year has put in a massive effort. It’s a big wheel to keep turning.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work to take that first step and we have to make sure that hard work continues right the way through the summer and into pre-season.

“But it shows a glimpse of our potential – we have tremendous faith in this group of players.”
