WEYMOUTH duo Anton Robinson and Stuart Beavon are still “100 per cent committed to the cause” despite coming close to capturing moves away from the Wessex Stadium.
The two stars were given the opportunity to talk to other clubs earlier this week but nothing materialised with Beavon’s potential switch to AFC Bournemouth breaking down just 30 minutes before Thursday’s 5pm deadline for loan deals.
Robinson said: “The club is in financial turmoil and the boys were told that they might not get paid next month. We were then given the opportunity to talk to different clubs but I felt it was not the right time and I did not want to rush into anything.
“Obviously the window re-opens in January but hopefully before then a new owner will come in and fingers crossed things will be a lot more settled.
“At the end of the day I have achieved so much here and I would be gutted to leave. But if I have no other option then I will have to look into it.”
Former Terras’ boss and current AFC Bournemouth assistant manager Jason Tindall accused of his former employers of moving the goalposts in terms of the League Two club’s quest to sign Beavon but the striker is not so bitter.
He said: “We were told that the club had to cut the budget and that we could talk to people so I spoke with AFC Bournemouth but nothing happened at the last minute.
“Playing League football is my ambition in the end but it is not a case where I want to leave. After what we were told I had no other option but to protect my future because we all need to make sure we are in work in three months’ time.
“Now I am staying I will be giving my all, along with the rest of the lads, to ensure we continue to climb the table and hopefully by January the situation here will be a lot clearer. It is just a case of wait and see.”
Beavon is “gutted” that he will miss this afternoon’s Blue Square Premier League clash with Mansfield Town at the Wessex Stadium when the Terras will continue to try and move closer to the play-offs.
Robinson added: “We are only four points off the play-offs which is a fantastic effort considering all the stuff that has being going on around the club.
“Like I said the financial situation is clearly not healthy but the boys have stuck together and I think the fans have been able to see that on the pitch.
“We have tried to not let anything faze us and we have worked hard on making sure none of the lads get down.
“All we can do is go out there and perform, and hopefully everything else will end up working out for the best.
“In terms of on the pitch, we just need that little bit more to go forward and it really is just a little bit. If we manage to stay together as a squad then I still believe we can make the play-offs.
“I am still a Weymouth player and I am 100 per cent committed to the cause and I know the rest of the lads are the same.
“The future is unclear for everyone at the minute but we have to try and put that to one side and continue producing the results.
“Hopefully the fans will not see a change on the pitch and I am sure they will continue to get behind us. If we are to come through this difficult period we need to do it together.”
