WEYMOUTH boss Matty Hale has offered a contract to former Football Icon star Daniel Bennett.
The fleet-footed forward may not have been able to win over Jose Mourinho and claim a contract at Chelsea in the Sky One series in 2005 but he has certainly impressed Hale who is looking forward to working more with the 21-year-old.
He said: “We have offered Danny a contract and he has agreed to sign which is fantastic.
“The deal should be completed in the next couple of days and he will certainly be in my thoughts for our opening league game at Lewes on Saturday.
“At Paulton Rovers last Friday he came on in the second half and looked really sharp and dangerous again, and I am confident he has a good future ahead of him.”
Hale has also struck a deal with Team Bath Under-18s’ striker Tyler Sibbick.
He added: “Tyler is only 17 so he will play in the reserves where he will be able to gain experience before hopefully making the step up into the first-team squad in the future.
“Not only is he a goalscorer but he is also another player with good potential.”
Despite landing the duo Hale remains keen to bring in one more striker with ex-Team Bath star Joe Arnold still very much in his thoughts.
He is also on the lookout for possible cover in midfield should the result of Hector Mackie’s scan on his injured knee, due this week, be as bad as first feared.
It is understood the ex-St Albans City star may have damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, which could keep him out for up to six months.
Meanwhile, Hale was encouraged by the performances of Martin Slocombe and Andy Harris last Friday. The pair returned to action following a stomach problem and a back injury respectively. Hale said: “Martin and Andy were our best performers at Paulton. They both came through the game well and should be okay for Saturday.”
