WEYMOUTH boss Matty Hale claimed the capture of ex-Team Bath striker Joe Arnold is “a massive signing” for the club.
The 21-year-old put pen to paper yesterday afternoon and Hale admitted he was delighted to land a player he has tracked all summer.
He said: “Joe has been someone I’ve been looking at for a while and is a massive signing because he gives us more competition up front.
“He has got pace, strength, power and Conference South experience. He’s got everything in terms of ability and wants to play at this level.
“Joe knows the Team Bath lads so hopefully he will fit in right away, which is crucial with the new season around the corner.
“I didn’t think we would have this much competition for places but we’ve got 19 or 20 players here now.”
After the news that Hector Mackie looks set to be sidelined for six months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Arnold’s signing represents a major boost.
Hale revealed that Arnold would go straight into the squad for Saturday’s Blue Square South curtain-raiser at Lewes if he comes through training unscathed.
Meanwhile, Kyle Critchell has been appointed the Terras’ on-field captain, with Andy Harris named club captain.
Hale added: “Kyle gives us a lot of passion and commitment because he probably wants to play for the club more than anybody else.
“There were other potential candidates but Kyle is a Weymouth lad and will give absolutely everything to the cause.”
