WEYMOUTH boss Matty Hale has boosted his squad on the eve of the new Blue Square South campaign by drafting in ex-Salisbury City defender Ollie Barnes on non-contract terms.
The left-back, who played for Worcester City last season, has gone straight into tomorrow’s squad for the trip to Lewes (3pm) while Portsmouth loanee Ryan Gazet Du Chattelier has had his loan deal cancelled.
Hale said: “Ollie can play left-back or at centre-half and will provide competition for Martin Slocombe.
“As for Ryan, he has gone back to Ports-mouth as he could not get down here for training on a regular basis. Also, with Joe Arnold having signed on earlier this week, it has increased competition and at the end of the day Ryan has gone out on loan to get games.”
Hale is expecting a tough battle at Lewes but is backing his team to put on a committed performance. He added: “I have been to watch them and we are not going there for a point or to lose. We are going there to score goals and hopefully come away with a win.
“Like us they are a young side trying to find their feet again and it is certainly somewhere I think we can get something.”
Ben Reiffer has been included in the Terras’ 17-man squad with Hector Mackie being the only absentee through a long-term knee injury.
Terras’ assistant-boss Ian Hutchinson said: “We have made the boys understand what it means to wear the Weymouth shirt and they know what we are after. We go to Lewes with no pressure and I am sure the lads will produce a good display.”
Terras: Harrison, Evans, Critchell, Brice, Rose, Barnes, Harris, Slocombe, Townley, Smith, Thorne, Reiffer, Preston, Groves, Cooper, Bennett, Arnold.
