Hale: We'll be focused

WEYMOUTH manager Matty Hale has insisted that the club’s off the field problems cannot be used as an excuse for their indifferent form.

The Terras suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Weston-super-Mare on Friday before being hit 24 hours later with news that the club could be forced to go into administration should an investment of £50,000 not be found before September 8.

This afternoon Hale’s men face Havant & Waterlooville at the Wessex Stadium and the 30-year-old boss is adamant his players will be fully focused on the job in hand.

He said: “What is happening behind the scenes has to be left to the people who specialise in that area and that is the chairman and the board of directors.

“We cannot use that as any type of excuse and must remain fully focused on the jobs we have been brought here to do and that is playing football and trying to win matches. We must put everything else to one side.”

And Hale is expecting a positive response from his players. He added: “We were not good enough in the first half at Weston-Super-Mare and some of the lads were going missing which is not acceptable.

“When you go behind you have to show some fight and in the second half we did that and created a few chances until the sending off of Matt Groves made things difficult again and we conceded two more.

“We also showed battling qualities at Maidenhead United when we came back from a goal down to get a draw so it is in us but we have got to start finding some consistency and hopefully that will begin today.”

Joe Arnold will again miss out for the Terras this afternoon. Hale said: “Joe is not 100 per cent and there is no point in risking him.

“We are trying to get Josh Klein-Davies signed on non-contract terms from Weston-super-Mare but his inclusion today depends on whether his registration goes through in time.

“Josh is one player I should not have let go during pre-season and I am delighted he is coming back on board.

“Except for the long-term injury to Hector Mackie everyone else is available.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Chris Allen is keen to sign a permanent deal with the Terras after impressing on non-contract terms in the club’s last three games.

Hale added: “Chris wants to sign but I am not sure how we are going to be able to do that at present.

“I will have speak to the chairman because we still need to get a couple more players in and that is going to be more difficult now.”

Terras: Harrison, Evans, Critchell, Brice, Rose, Hale, Obaze, Townley, Harris, Slocombe, Smith, Allen, Reiffer, Metters, Groves, Cooper, Reid, Sibbick, Bennett.
