Radders set to reinforce Terras

POISED TO JOIN: Simon Radcliffe POISED TO JOIN: Simon Radcliffe

BOSS Matty Hale believes Simon Radcliffe’s committed approach is just what the Terras need right now.

The full-back is poised to join the Blue Square South strugglers after departing Toolstation Western League Division One outfit Bridport.

Radcliffe has yet to put pen to paper at the Wessex Stadium but the switch, which would see the 28-year-old reunited with former Bees’ boss Ian Hutchinson, could be ratified in time for Saturday’s trip to Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Hale, who expressed his interest in the former Dorchester Town man in yesterday’s Echosport, said: “We’re trying to get him in for Saturday.

“We spoke to Bridport’s manager Trevor Senior and made an official approach but, rather kindly, Trevor’s waived the seven-day approach so we’ve been able to speak to Simon in a bid to try and get everything sorted and signed for Saturday.

“Simon is somebody that Hutchy highly recommends. He puts his head in where it hurts, he’s fit and he works hard, which is what we need at the moment as it’s an area in which we’ve fallen short of late.”

Radcliffe, who scored two goals in 212 appearances for the Magpies between 2000 and 2006, could be joined in the Terras’ squad that travels to the Beveree Stadium this weekend by a selection of reserve-team players.

Hale, who on Tuesday night oversaw a training match involving players from both the reserves and the senior side, added: “We had lads from the first team and lads from the reserves, and we mixed the two up a bit.

“It was a worthwhile exercise and there were some good prospects from the reserves on show who have given me food for thought.

“Therefore we may well see a couple of them at Hampton on Saturday.”

Division One? They'll have to work up from Division Six (South) like everybody else.
