Ridley and Higson leave boardroom

STEPPING DOWN: Ian Ridley STEPPING DOWN: Ian Ridley

IAN Ridley and Dave Higson have left the board of directors at Weymouth Football Club.

Chairman Ridley is battling prostate cancer and it is understood that he felt unable to commit enough time to the club as a result.

Director Higson, who became acting chairman in Ridley's absence, is believed to have relinquished his position due to other business-related interests.

The duo's departures come just days after Matty Hale stepped down as manager.

However, directors Shaun Hennessy and Paul Cocks insist there is no rift within the football club.

They also revealed that the club has instructed lawyers to investigate the urgent commencement of legal proceedings against former chairman Malcolm Curtis on the grounds of gross negligence and misfeasance during his time at the Wessex Stadium.

See tomorrow's Echo for a full interview with Cocks and Hennessy.

Good riddance to Ridley. This has got to be the best news of the season.

Shame about Dave Higson - maybe now that Ridley has gone he will reconsider.

Good luck to Ian with his battle with cancer it sort of puts it all into perspective. Feels like Hennessy and **** are a bit out of their depth and can only blame last in - that sounds familiar! They have been their for almost a year so change must be due shortly.......

Like him or loathe him at least he gave it a go, I wish Ian all the best with his health issues, far more important than any football club. Dave Higson going again is a sad loss but not completely unexpected. Matty Hale I am sure gave it everything, and so will Hutch, but the odds are very much against a swift turnaround. We can't score let alone win, have taken root at the bottom of the league, attendances are in free fall, prime members of staff are leaving at will, the club is crippled by financial difficulties etc. - is it time to call it a day, draw a line under it and start again at a lower more affordable level and see where we end up.
Not many of you reading this will have supported this club longer than me but sometimes you have to face up to the facts and make hard choices.
The Portland and Chickerell clubs seem to be happy enough.

Well done 'Old Rec' - but I'm sure a few optimists out there will disagree that "we should never think that way" etc. Well, perhaps they should wake up. For me, I've had enough ... I've attended most Weymouth home games for the past 9 years (work commitments prevent me from watching away fixtures). Last weekend a friend asked me to go and watch a local rugby match ... loved the atmosphere, the mickey taking, the on-field commitment and the sense of friendship (instead of backbiting). Not a cross word to be said. Loved every minute, and I'll be back to watch some more egg-chasing. Oh, and the attendance seemed more than that of the local football team!

Sounds to me like Abandon Ship how many weeks ago when the £50,000 + had been donated we were told the club could now go forward seems more like reverse to me . As most of us know weymouth football club is a business and its business is done on the pitch and if as for a good number of weeks now the team isnt winning cause make no mistake its about winning then the Fans wont pay hard earnt money to watch a poor side lose with players who arent up for it and a previous manager who was totally out of his depth whats going to change now nothing at all except i fear we have more to come from the jumping ship brigade or The Ego trippers Club .

Has Disney bought into the club? When the latest incumbents took over they talked about no more secrets. Now the club is shrouded in mystery, valued members of staff have jumped ship and much of the recent off field good work is in tatters.
