Hutch offered manager's job

OFFER: Ian Hutchinson OFFER: Ian Hutchinson

IAN Hutchinson has been formally offered the vacant manager’s position at Weymouth.

Should he take up the offer, the Teesider will complete a sensational return to the Wessex Stadium hot-seat having been sacked only three months ago.

Terras’ chairman George Rolls told Echosport: “We had a board meeting on Wednesday night, at which we included representatives of the new supporters’ association, and we have offered the job to Ian Hutchinson.

“There is a package we have offered to him and we are waiting to hear his response.”

Hutchinson and his assistant Andy Mason were replaced by Jerry Gill in January but the latter lasted just 44 days in the job before handing in his resignation.

Andy Harris has since taken over on a caretaker basis but Rolls is keen to have Hutchinson in place for the start of next season.

Meanwhile, Rolls also confirmed that the supporter who ran on to the Wessex Stadium pitch at the end of last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Weston-super-Mare, and attacked opposition defender Mike Green, has been handed a lifetime ban.

He added: “We have not heard anything from the FA as yet but we do not condone any action that took place and we have decided that the supporter will be given a lifetime ban from the Wessex.

“We want to eradicate that kind of behaviour as there is no place for it.”

The Terras travel to high-flying Dover Athletic tomorrow (3pm).

He can't do any worse than anyone else - or can he?

That comment smacks of ignorance. Look at the facts! When Hutch was caretaker manager earlier this season he turned the whole thing round and had some really good results. By his own admission George Rolls got it wrong when he sacked him and brought in his own man.

Hutch is clearly good at motivating players and has Weymouth close to his heart. We have to hope he accepts the job on a permanent basis.

Wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole!

Wait for AFC Weymouth to start.

The reason they're in that position in the table is mainly due to the manager before Hutch and the manager appointed after Hutch was sacked!!

Great to see yet another totally ill-informed "opinion" posted on the Echo comments.

This comment is quite laughable. It may be that Hutchinson is the best of all the poor managers this season & carries a certain amount of respect from the Weymouth Public, but to state that he has turned things around is a rather strange conclusion!! The team have won 6 matches in 44 League and Cup Games this season!! So where is the evidence that things were turned around?

This is the triumph of hope over experience. It doesn't really matter who is in charge at the Wessex Stadium, there is little future for the Terras. Will the stadium be sold next?

How sad that people cannot see the reality. As fishski says the fact is that the poor performance over the season stems from the manager before Hutch was given caretaker manager status and the manager after he was pushed out. Weymouth will be playing in the Zamaretto League next season and Hutch as a Weymouth man with proven skills has to be the person for the job - if he wants it. The sad thing is people knocking the possibility of a real new beginning
