BRENDON King is closing in on two targets including one that could be a potential replacement for outgoing striker Warren Byerley.

The Weymouth boss has held talks with the duo and is extremely hopeful both men will take up their offers in the next few days.

Commenting on what has been a hectic week at the Terras, King told Echosport: “It has been a tough few days.

“The fact Warren has chosen to pursue a move to Kettering Town is disappointing but that is football and there is no time to wallow.

“Instead you have to move on quickly and I am glad to say that I have had encouraging talks with two targets that would be massive additions for us.

“We have offered both of them deals and hopefully we will get an answer from them in the next couple of days.”

King refused to identify the two mystery players but could not resist giving away a few hints.

He added: “Both of them have proved themselves at this level by having won the league before and they have also played higher.

“The midfielder is a warrior that puts his foot in and gets all over the pitch, while the centre forward is a proven goalscorer, so it would be fantastic if we could get them both on board.

“They are both also considering offers from other clubs but we have sold what we are trying to do here to them, and they seemed keen to buy into it.

“One of them is actually going on holiday on Monday and wants everything sorted before he goes away so we should have a further update after the weekend.”
